Targeting A Solution

It may not seem intuitive to tackle the issue of Veteran suicide at the world's largest firearms show, but for The Independence Fund, it provided the perfect opportunity to gather the nation's leading advocates for Veteran suicide prevention and host our second annual Targeting a Solution Panel.

This year's Targeting A Solution conversation was moderated by comedian and actor Bryan Callen, while Tim Kennedy, former UFC fighter and US Army Master Sergeant and Green Beret; Dan Hollaway, Veteran and co-host of the Drinkin’ Bros Podcast; Jason Murff, Veteran, and Founder of Grill Your Ass Off; Cody Garrett, Veteran, Former Law Enforcement Officer, and YouTuber; Eli Cuevas, Veteran and Content Creator; and business leader Brian Goldstein, PhD, shared their vulnerable and unfiltered insights into the struggles Veterans face back home.

More than four times as many post-9/11 Veterans have died by suicide compared to those who lost their lives in combat, and for The Independence Fund, that staggering statistic necessitates action. There is power in de-stigmatizing the mental health struggles that we all face, but there is a particular impact in unmasking the scars of war that many Veterans carry with them after combat. We know we can save lives by bringing together some of the most compelling voices to have an honest dialogue about this crisis.

Watch the clip below to hear directly from our panelists about the urgency to prevent Veteran suicide and the power of vulnerability and community.
