Operation Resilience: 1-17 IN Veteran PG Adewale

“Thank you for all you did for us. You didn’t have to, but you did.”

- Veteran PG Adewale

The Independence Fund’s Operation Resilience (OpRes) program has saved lives in the fight against Veteran Suicide since 2018.

Thanks to generous donors, Veterans like PG enjoy the opportunity to reunite with their brothers in arms years after fighting for our nation in battle. Their sacrifice leaves many of them feeling isolated and looking for a solution to ease the pain left by the invisible wounds of war.

With the tools and activities provided during and following an OpRes retreat, Veterans find productive, life-changing solutions to their pain.

PG reunited with his fellow US Army Veterans of 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment (1-17 IN) Veterans in November 2024 through OpRes. One of his biggest takeaways from the retreat was the generosity shown to him by donors and volunteers.

1-17 IN, a unit based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, endured unparalleled challenges in 2009. Deployed to the heart of combat in Afghanistan's Arghandab River Valley during Operation Enduring Freedom, these brave heroes faced unimaginable adversity, losing 22 men in a single year. Upon returning home, the group lost more than a dozen members to Veteran suicide.

Those who participated said the retreat not only changes lives - but it also saves them. This live-saving work is made possible because of donors, sponsors, and partners who did not have to help – but did.
