Wounded Heroes Day School Kit

The lives of the more than 1.6 million military children in the United States are drastically different than those of their civilian classmates, neighbors and friends: often marked by transition, moves, deployments, and worry larger than their years. 80% of military children attend schools within the United States, setting the stage for an incredible network of support and encouragement within their classrooms.

April marks Month of the Military Child, and as we prepare to celebrate North Carolina’s fourth annual Wounded Heroes Day on April 24, we invite classrooms to join us, and help their students understand the stark reality - and sacrifice - experienced by military children across the country.

In honor of Wounded Heroes Day, we have created a special, free, downloadable school kit for elementary schools throughout North Carolina (and beyond!) to use. Inside you will find a helpful instruction sheet explaining what Wounded Heroes Day is and the incredible, unanimous support it received from North Carolina’s General Assembly.

Inside there are also fun, easy to use classroom activities like coloring sheets and a reading of “Hero at Home,” written by our CEO Sarah Verardo to help explain the reality of life after war.

As we prepare for Wounded Heroes Day 2024, download the Wounded Heroes Day school kit for your classroom - or your child’s classroom here.
