Veteran Caregiver & Family Programs

Supporting the
Heroes Behind Our Nation’s Heroes

Veteran Caregivers devote their lives to supporting severely wounded Veterans, often putting their own needs last. Many face this journey without the support network they deserve.

Our Caregiver Program is designed to change that. We provide meaningful opportunities for respite, connection, and community, ensuring Caregivers have the support they need to continue caring for their loved ones.

Our Program Provides:

  • Retreats and virtual events that build community and lasting support networks
  • Dedicated time for respite, rest, and recovery
  • Opportunities to connect and bond with fellow Caregivers
  • Access to resources that empower Caregivers to care for themselves and their families

The Veteran Family Program Offers:

  • Family retreats for Veterans and their loved ones
  • Dedicated time away for rest, relaxation, and reconnection
  • Art therapy programs that encourage healing and expression
  • Aftercare resources tailored to each family’s unique needs

Veteran Family Support

In addition to our opportunities for Caregivers, we offer a Family Program, designed to support the families of wounded Veterans, ensuring no member of the warfighter community is left behind. These families play a vital role in recovery, and our program provides specialized resources and experiences only available through The Independence Fund.

How to Get Involved:

  • Be a Veteran, or the Caregiver of a Veteran who served during or after the Vietnam War
  • Be the parent or guardian of school-aged children
  • Families can be made up in many ways; qualifying families contain a Veteran with mobility challenges in relation to their Military service
  • Submit an intake form

Hear From Past Participants

“The family retreat allowed us to do things we have never done before and experience them as a family. There is a great deal of feeling alone and being able to come together and be with people who really understand you and support you is vital.”

— Caregiver Tiffany Vendela

“It is really important to have other Caregivers who you mesh well with and live the same life that you do and have a better understanding of what being a Caregiver encompasses. I have attended Caregiver retreats and made lifelong friends there. I still talk to those people, they understand me and I understand them, and if I didn’t have that, I would be very lonely.”

— Caregiver Michelle Muzzy
